Being a mum, dad or carer is not always easy
Bringing up children is exciting and enjoyable but it is also demanding, tiring and stressful. We all need help at times as none of us are trained to be parents.
We may be able to help families to deal with challenging behaviour.
We offer confidential individual family support or group sessions and can cater for parents with children 0 – 16 years.
Positive Parenting
We are trained and licensed to run the Positive Parenting 'Time Out' parenting programmes. These are very parent-friendly courses of approximately 8 weeks which come with a helpful, supporting parent handbook to which you can refer again and again. The standard 'Time Out for Parents' course content covers:
- What children really need
- Developing emotional security
- Setting loving limits
- Keeping safe
- Problem solving
- The Teen zone
- The importance of play
- The right start - food and fitness
- Keeping sane as a parent
Time out for Parents
Time Out for Parents' takes place from time to time at Kingsland School, Bandywood Crescent, Kingstanding in the Studio for 8 weeks. Everyone is welcome, its not just for parents of children at Kingsland. It has been particularly helpful for foster carers, step-parents and child minders. A free creche is available. A small charge of £1 per week is made to cover the cost of a handbook which accompanies the course. Certificates awarded on completion.
Other Time Out courses include Time Out for Juniors' (for parents of children aged 6 - 10yrs), 'Time Out for Teens' (which is suitable for parents of children aged 10 to 16yrs and which focuses strongly on improving communication with your often un-communicative teen!), 'Time Out for Special Parents' (for parents of children with additional needs). There are also additional mini-courses which can be added onto any of the main programmes. These cover awareness of handling of ADHD and ASD.
We recommend that all parents/carers taking part in any of the 'Time Out' courses consider completing the complementary 4 week Anger Management course with us. All of us feel angry and frustrated with their children's behaviour at some time or other. The 4 week course helps you recognise your personal anger triggers and learn to take a step back before becoming overheated. It also gives you strategies for coping with children's anger. Courses are run regularly both during the day (free creche provided) and in the evenings for those who work. A small charge of £5 is made to cover the cost of a parent handbook which accompanies the course. Certificates are awarded on completion.
